So recently I decided to try my very first subscription box and thought I would share a little review with my thoughts! When I saw that Legion of Collectors, the beautiful child of DC Comics and Funko, was doing a box for the theme Women of DC I knew despite my currently very tight budget I had to get it. Have to say now I’m glad that I did! There are few things more exciting than finding a gem of a package on your doorstep, so let’s get right to it.
First, the box itself was delightful! Upon opening, it was definitely exciting to see the design with several of my favorite fictional ladies and I will for sure be finding a way to reuse the box. Package officially unpacked, let’s get to the goodies inside.
The shirt will definitely be a new staple of my nerd wardrobe. It features three of DC’s arguably most popular villains: Poison Ivy, Catwoman and of course Harley Quinn. Everyone had a chance of receiving either this shirt or a heroes themed one featuring Wonder Woman, Batgirl and Supergirl. While I love both, I’m happy with mine because I didn’t yet have anything for them!
I have to admit, my Wonder Woman ruled heart was kind of in this mainly for her so I was glad to find a little something. For the same reason of bias, I also couldn’t help feeling like I wanted more but I can’t quite place what more exactly. It’s what I could call a retro style figurine, complete with her invisible plane. It’s fun, but also I had to reattach her leg two times when handling the figure. (Sorry, Diana!) I do kind of enjoy that I have my hero in pocket size form now though. All the places I could take her!
The Harley pin is lovely – something about Harley’s expression is just perfect. I kind of want to wear it on my purse. I also enjoy the Batgirl patch – do people still wear patches? I can’t think of a time I’ve ever actually ironed a patch onto something but I may try it now! The comic included was also Batgirl and I thoroughly enjoyed reading through it – I’m still a comics novice, so this was my first Batgirl title and I definitely intend to read more asap.
Finally, the Funko pop….it’s Hawkgirl! I am still so pleased with this as I love her story but also her significance as one of the first female superheroes. This is only the second Funko I’ve had the luck to own (the first being superhero in her own right, Michonne of The Walking Dead) and I have her sitting on the table next to me as I write this post.
All in all, I am pleased with my purchase! It couldn’t have been a more perfect theme for my interests, and though I’m not certain if I will continue my subscription I will definitely be keeping a lookout for future boxes that pique my interest (here’s hoping for a Justice League box around the film’s release).
Any of you get the box yourself and have some thoughts? What or who would you have liked to see included? Feel free to share in the comments below or drop me a tweet!
