Have you ever read a murder mystery and wish you could ask the suspects so many questions yourself? Or did you ever think to yourself, “You know what would make the game Clue so much better? Time travel and zombies.” If you answered yes to either of these or you just like a compelling mystery then you would absolutely be interested in newly released game The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker. Developed by D’Avekki Studios, the game is described as a “horror themed murder mystery FMV game where you play as a therapist questioning patients” but this is kind of an understatement for the actual experience.
As I’m sure you all have been able to tell from the blog so far, I am always a sucker for a fun survey or list. Therefore when I saw the Geeky Girl Tag over on The Howling WolfHeart I had to give it a try. Thanks to Cassie of Zombie Goddess Beauty for putting it together!
1. What is your must-have tech gadget?
Lately I would say my Kindle Fire – it’s been a valuable part of my nightly gaming then reading ritual once in bed.
2. Which house do you belong to in Hogwarts?
This has recently become a complicated question, much to my personal struggle. I’ve considered myself a Slytherin mixed with a dose of Hufflepuff for most of my life. I was sorted into Slytherin on my first Pottermore quiz back in the day. But recently, when I take quizes I’m sorted into strange places like Ravenclaw and Gryffindor. People change, but who am I even? Suppose I don’t really know.
3. Who is your favorite Doctor?
Ten. I have a lot of mixed feelings about Doctor Who I won’t get into here, but Ten’s time was definitely when I most loved the show.
4. If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?
Sara freaking Lance. I am super in love with her, okay? Just let me have this one pretend date with her.
So if you haven’t caught my ramblings on twitter, I should let you know I’m a pretty major Critter – aka fan of the web show Critical Role. Watching a group of nerdy-ass voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons for many, many hours has introduced me to a many fun things. In particular, I have them to thank for introducing me to both the brilliant force of nature that is Marisha Ray. Together with Geek & Sundry, Ray helped to launch a new web show called Signal Boost. The concept is pretty simple. Each host shares a small number of things out there in the world that deserve a boost. It’s really an opportunity to talk about some things you appreciate that may not get the attention you feel they should. And in turn, you hope that someone else will find a new fixation to enjoy.
I’ve explained enough I think, so let me go ahead and get to the Signal Boosting already! Here are a few things I would like to share with you, some perhaps more established than others.
So I’m a little late to this list – plan was for this to go up at the start of the year but we all know how things go sometimes. 2017 has been a blur so far it seems, but as we step into the second month I felt it appropriate to finally share some of the things I’m most looking forward to in the coming months!
1. Mass Effect: Andromeda (March 21)
This game that I’ve been ready to love since it was first announced long ago is actually a mere two months away now! The long over adieu follow up to Bioware’s original Mass Effect trilogy, Andromeda follows a group looking for a potential new home far from their own galaxy. With every released trailer I’m more and more committed to my next space adventure and I may or may not have already started planning my Ryder internally.
2. Wonder Woman (June 2)
My whole life, before I ever even read a comic book, I’ve always loved Wonder Woman. It was pretty world changing for me, to see that there was a female superhero in the same league (literally) as household names Superman and Batman. Since growing up, my devotion to the Amazon warrior has only grown. While I was originally skeptical of Gal Gadot’s casting in the role, I have since come to trust her with it and so in combination with the directorial power of Patty Jenkins I am holding faith this film will save the DC film franchise.
I know, I know. Long time no post here. Things have been a bit all over the place as of late, but here I am with some holiday themed questions courtesy of Katy at Oh So Geeky to get things going again!
Advent Calendar: Traditions you celebrate during December?
I honestly am still working out my own traditions – we aren’t very Christmas heavy here in the family household so mostly we go to see a movie and have a good meal. Those are enough traditions for me at the moment!
Carols: What’s your favorite song(s)?
My favorite holiday song in general is usually “Carol of the Bells” because it can be done in so many ways, but right now I’m really obsessed with Leslie Odom Jr’s cover of “My Favorite Things”.
Coal: A naughty character you’d send coal to?
Right now the first to come to mind is that terrible charmer Negan on The Walking Dead. He’d find the humor in it, right? Or more likely I’m a goner. Hello, Lucille.
I truly can’t believe I haven’t posted anything Halloween related here on the blog yet. It’s a favorite holiday of mine for so many reasons, but this year it feels as though it really snuck up on me. The exciting news is that though I’ve been slacking here, I did manage to put together a fun little post for my first ever guest blog entry over at Gabriella’s Nerdette At Large! In it I discussed some of my Halloween traditions, including my favorite films and television shows to watch. Give it a read here!
In addition, I do want to talk spooky video games! Now, my list here is probably going to be pretty tame compared to most as I just don’t have a lot of experience playing horror games. But I do think these are some fun games with Halloween vibes that a wide audience can enjoy.
If you’ve been following me on twitter, you’ve probably seen me mention my newest obsession of HBO’s Westworld. Part historical fiction Western style, part sci-fi think piece on artificial intelligence, every episode of the series so far has left my mind reeling with fascination and no shortage of questions. I thought I would share some of these here and if you’re reading this as a fellow viewer I’d love to talk theories! Please be warned that from here on out will be a SPOILER ZONE for episodes 1 – 3 of Westworld.
Today is National Voter Registration Day, so I figured this is a good time to share my experiences with voting. It’s now been eight years since I turned 18 and registered myself to vote. In that time I’ve never missed my opportunity to vote in a presidential election and only rarely missed other elections when necessary. It’s always been something that feels just so important to me. When I was young, my mom would take me with her to the polling locations when she cast her own vote (I remember being amused sometimes when this would be my school). Since then it’s just stuck with me as a habit I don’t ever want to shake. I’m aware that I come from a place of privilege in this and that unfortunately voting is not the easy process it is for me to everyone, but that makes it feel so important to not squander this. It certainly should be easy for all, but that’s a topic for another time.
My first presidential election was voting for our current leader Barack Obama back in 2008. Never before had I felt the amount of excitement for politics I had during this election. He was a voice of hope and of positive change for our country and I threw myself into his cause, joining our students for Obama group on campus. Our primary objective more than anything was to get other people registered to vote. I sat our table for hours asking students as they passed by if they were registered and if not, would they do so now? There was only a simple form between them and having a part in our political process. I joined other canvassing students going door to door through nearby neighborhoods asking those who actually answered if they were registered or what we can do to help them prepare for their vote. It was such a learning experience that has stayed with me all these years. When he won the election, it was an emotional night made all the more significant because I knew that I took part in history. Our first African American president, and now we have opportunity to make history once again with this election.
Nowadays I’m not especially active the way I was back then as a student invigorated by her first election, but I still vote. Every time that election day comes around, I find a way to reach that polling booth and it’s something I can’t imagine forgoing now. If you’re reading this, you should vote too. This election in particular is unlike any other, which means more than ever that your vote can and will have an impact. So all of this to say, VOTE. Please. Registering is so much easier than it’s ever been in the past, so I will link a few of the ways below. I am not in any way affiliated with any of these groups, so if you have questions it may be best to get in touch with them!
HelloVote – Through this, you can get registered to vote by answering questions via text message. Attached as we all are to our phones, it can’t get easier than that. Enter your number at their page or text HELLO to 384-387 to get the process started.

So recently I decided to try my very first subscription box and thought I would share a little review with my thoughts! When I saw that Legion of Collectors, the beautiful child of DC Comics and Funko, was doing a box for the theme Women of DC I knew despite my currently very tight budget I had to get it. Have to say now I’m glad that I did! There are few things more exciting than finding a gem of a package on your doorstep, so let’s get right to it.
First, the box itself was delightful! Upon opening, it was definitely exciting to see the design with several of my favorite fictional ladies and I will for sure be finding a way to reuse the box. Package officially unpacked, let’s get to the goodies inside.
